MUAY THAI

A BRIEF HISTORY
Muay Thai, also known as “the art of eight limbs” is a martial art that was developed in Thailand, and is commonly referred to as Thai Boxing. It dates back to the 16th century
when the Thai ancestors taught “toi muay” to the younger generation to help protect the nation against invaders, and later became a sport in which the opponents fought in front of spectators who went to watch for entertainment. Muay Thai employs different parts of the human body as natural weapons such as fists, feet, elbows and knees (hence, the art of eight limbs) It can be used effectively in close or long range situations. Muay Thai is considered to be the most effective striking style for stand up strikers, and a key piece of mixed martial arts training. In 2021, sport of Muay Thai was approved for full Olympic recognition to become an official Olympic sport.
